Why this matters in food manufacturing A strong CAPEX case explains the engineering problem, business consequence, proposed control, cost and expected outcome without burying the decision in technical detail. The one-page format is not intended to replace detailed project documentation. It creates a decision-ready front end that allows leaders to understand why the investment matters. 1. 1. Define the current state State what exists, its age/condition where relevant, current performance and the specific constraint or risk. Use evidence: downtime, capacity, energy, compliance exposure, maintenance cost or obsolescence. Avoid weak phrases such as ‘old machine needs replacing’. Explain the operational consequence of leaving the condition unchanged. 2. 2. Define the proposed solution Describe the scope in outcome terms: replace, upgrade, add redundancy, remove bottleneck, improve hygienic design or reduce utility consumption. Separate essential scope from desirable enhancements so the decision maker can see what creates the core value. 3. Quantify value and risk Show financial benefits where defensible: avoided cost, labour, energy, yield, capacity or third-party spend. Also state non-financial value such as food safety, legal compliance, resilience or safety improvement.…
